Our Sires

KVS Sport Horses uses frozen semen imported from the Netherlands to breed from some of Europe's top show jumping stallions. Below you'll find profiles of some of the current sires whose offspring are available or in development at our farm, as well as highlights for key foundation stallions whose influence runs through our mares and dam lines.

One of today’s top sires

Zirocco Blue (2004 Mr. Blue x Voltaire) was a top international jumper in the 2010’s, including appearances in the Olympics, European and World Championships. Currently ranked as a top-ten sire by the WBFSH, his offspring achieve spectacularly at the highest levels of sport.

Grand Prix and Nations Cup winner

Glasgow van’t Merelsnest (2006 Nabab de Reve x Darco) achieved at the top level of sport before his 2022 retirement. Out of Wendelina van’t Merelsnest (full sister of jumping superstar Sapphire), Glasgow is a genetic powerhouse with over 60 offspring competing internationally. In particular, his foals are known for good athletic scope, carefulness and quick take off.

A proven sire who passes along quality

Carrera VDL (2006 Cardento x Baloubet du Rouet) is frequently listed in the world’s top 50 jumping sires. Competing successfully at 1.50 m before his career ended early due to injury, Carrera is known for passing on scope, technique and athletic ability to his offspring.

A top competitor with great foals

Competing successfully at 1.60 m, Comthago (2014 Comme Il Faut x Carthago Z) is a show jumping star who produces large and long lined foals. They have good movement, with especially strong canters. Currently Comthago’s first foals are competing to 1.45 m.

Sambucci de Muze (2018 Hunter’s Scendro x Vigo d'Arsouilles) is a modern sport stallion who stands out in the ring for his excellent attitude, quick reflexes, strong bascule, power and athletic ability. Now competing at 1.45 m, his first foals are true to his type: modern, quick and athletic.

Mindset ES (2017 Aganix du Seigneur x Kannan GFE) has been competing at the 1.50 m since 2025 and has already placed in multiple competitions. Noted for his power, scope and rideability, Mindset’s first foals show strong potential in young horse competitions.

Promise and style

New Pleasure VDL (2018 For Pleasure x Diamant de Semilly) launched his career at the 2021 KWPN Stallion Show with the year’s top performance test score. Since then, he has won or placed in many of Europe’s 6- and 7-year-old competitions, and is competing successfully at 1.45 m. His oldest offspring, now four years old, are modern and athletic.

“Stallion of the Century”

In 2000, Nimmerdor (1972 Farn x Koridon) was named the Netherland’s “Stallion of the Century” based on the number and quality of show jumpers he sired. Nimmerdor was also the founding stallion of VDL Stud, the excellent Dutch studbook that is our go-to for quality stallions.

Nimmerdor was the sire of our foundation mare Obligeant II.

Contender

A great Holsteiner sire

In his day, Contender (1984 Calypso II x Ramiro Z) was one of the most sought-after stallions in Germany. During his lifetime, Contender produced 127 approved sons, 59 state premium mares and had over 500 successful offspring in sport.

Contender was the sire of our foundation mare Nastasia.

Berlin, legendary jumper and breeding sire. Top ten in WBFSH standings.

Still a world-leading show jumping sire

Berlin (1994 Cassini x Caretino) was one of the world’s best show jumping sires. Deceased in 2020, Berlin has held a top place in the WBFSH jumper sire rankings for over a decade (including top ten placings from 2017 to 2020), and, over the same period, been at the top of the KWPN breeding values (including first place in 2021).

Berlin was the sire of our foundation mare Zinadine T.

Cavalier aka San Patrignano Mister, multiple Grand Prix winner, keur breeding stallion.

Competing as San Patrignano Mister, Cavalier (1984 Maykel x Orthos) won more than 40 Grands Prix, puissance and speed competitions. A keur stallion who for many years placed high in the KWPN sire rankings, Cavalier was the sire of second generation KVS brood mares Lordana KVS and Gazelle KVS.

Heartbreaker, legendary show jumper and sire.

A modern legend

Along with a spectacular career in sport, Heartbreaker (1989 Nimmerdor x Silvano) was one of the greatest breeding sires of all time. With sons like Harley VDL, Toulon, Actionbreaker, Quasimodo van de Molendreef and Padinus, Heartbreaker has been a top ranked WBFSH jumping sire for many years.

Heartbreaker was the sire of Anouk KVS, one of the top brood mares in our Sina mare line.

Grand Prix winner as well as BWP studbook ambassador and KWPN keur stallion, Phin Phin (1992 Chin Chin x Abdullah T) indisputably proved himself in sport and breeding. As a sire, Phin Phin was known for passing on his fast reflexes, length and looseness in the body, and good movement.

Phin Phin was the sire of second generation brood mares Gaetana KVS, Malibu KVS and Kalipso KVS.

Top jumper and sire of champions

A successful international jumper himself, Tangelo vd Zuuthoeve’s offspring include Darry Lou (Spruce Meadows Masters winner with Beezie Madden) and Scuderia 1918 Tobago Z (multiple World Cup winner). Consistently ranked in the WBFSH’s top 100 jumper lists, Tangelo (1996 Narcos II x Laudanum) is known for producing foals with correct legs, loose movement, radiological health (good bones) and strong jumping technique and scope.

Tangelo is the sire of third generation KVS brood mares Opal KVS, Odessa KVS and Phaena KVS.
