Our Mare Lines
KVS Sport Horses breeds from elite European mare lines, imported from the Netherlands and carefully developed at our farm in Alberta.
Sina mare line 20, breeding line 398
Sina mare line #20, breeding line #398 is an elite show jumping dam line. International jumpers from this line include Argelith’s Piccolino, Mac Kinley, Modesto, Emerson VDL, Vivaldi K, Big Brother, Flash, Cavalier and Nottingham VDL.
One of the great mares of this line was Obligeant, who produced 1.60 m jumper Argelith's Piccolino and his full sister Derina. Derina (a 1.30 m jumper awarded ster, preferent and prestatie predicates) was the dam of our foundation mare Obligeant II.
Arie imported Obligeant II from the Netherlands. On the strength of the sport achievements of her offspring (including 1.35 m jumper Cameleon KVS) KWPN awarded Obligeant II the prestatie predicate.
Obligeant II passed away peacefully in pasture at KVS. Today her legacy is carried on by descendants such as Anouk KVS (dam of 2025 KWPN-NA champion jumper yearling Urocco Blue KVS) and Savannah KVS (daughter of Malibu KVS, currently competing at 1.40 m after two years in sport).
Holsteiner stamm 18A2
Holst stamm 18A2 is another top international dam line represented at KVS. In a 2008 article that is still cited today, Sporthorse Breeding Magazine ranked Holsteiner stamm 18A2 as number seven in the world's top 25 sport horse mare families.
At that time, the ranking was on the strength of dam line products such as the great 1.60 m jumpers Calypso, Calvados and Calvadur, famous breeding stallion Chambertin (sire of Chacco Blue and other approved stallions), 1.50 m jumper and approved stallion Cobra, and approved stallion Caruso.
Since then, this mare family has continued to deliver quality international show jumpers, including elite, keur 1.60 m jumper Untouchable.
Our foundation mare Nastasia’s maternal grand-dam Junda was the full sibling of 1.60 m jumper Calvados and approved stallion Caruso, and grand-dam of 1.50 m jumper and approved stallion Cobra.
Nastasia (who we called Big Mum) passed away at our farm at age 24 but we’re lucky to still have her brood mare daughters Gaetana KVS and Lordana KVS, as well as several beautiful granddaughters who are now producing their first foals.
Holsteiner stamm 2027
Holsteiner dam line 2027 has produced international show jumpers such as Daniel (winner, with Matt Simpson, of the 2024 Pan American Cup at Spruce Meadows), Romanov (multiple Grand Prix winner and one of Heartbreaker's most famous sons) and Westminster VDL (full brother to Romanov, and himself a 1.60 m jumper and established sire).
Holst stamm 2027 is represented at KVS by our foundation mare Cirkeness. Arie purchased Cirkeness from her Dutch breeders the Bosch family, whose many breeding successes include world champion Garant, and Grand Prix jumpers Daniel and Incredible.
The youngest of our foundation mares, Cirkeness is still an active brood mare at KVS. Last year, we welcomed foals from two of her granddaughters; this year, her 2022 Liamant W daughter Sirkeness KVS also produced a first foal.
Fokfamilie 1503
Fokfamilie 1503 is the mare line of our foundation mare Zinadine T, a confident and talented jumper whose direct dam line is rich in predicates that designate conformation, talent for sport and breeding accomplishments. These include her dam Indullah T (keur, sport), granddam Borina (ster, preferent, prestatie) and great-granddam Sonja (keur).
Zina’s dam Indullah T was a 1.40 m jumper, and Zina’s half-sister through Indullah T is 1.45 m jumper Herriet T.
Zina herself jumped at 1.30 m in Europe as a young mare and earned an elite sport predicate from KWPN before Arie purchased her in the Netherlands and brought her to Canada. Now our oldest brood mare, Zina is in foal this year. Her daughter Opal KVS is also a KVS brood mare.
